A Day with St Cuthbert: Leader Valley to Old Melrose
August 11, 2018 (10am–3pm)
A day in the Scottish Borders led by Kathy Tiernan, author of ‘Place of Repose; a tale of St Cuthbert’s last journey’.
St Cuthbert spent his childhood in the Leader Valley before entering the monastery of Mailros when he was 17. We’ll discuss different contenders for the site of Hruringaham, the Anglo-Saxon name of the village where he grew up, and visit one of them, Channelkirk. We’ll then go on to Old Melrose to visit the site of the Anglo-Saxon monastery of Mailros.
The cost of the day is £15, to include coffee at Lauder and lunch at Old Melrose. Please bring your own transport; if you need a lift this can be arranged.
