Hania, Crete, Greece
A weekend course is to be held in Hania, Crete on the weekend 17th/18th July. It is being hosted by the Etz Hayyim Synagogue (www.etz-hayyim-hania.org). The synagogue was abandoned in 1944 after the Nazis expelled all the remaining Jews who then perished at sea. In recent years it has been restored by volunteers, and has become a locus for ecumenical discussion, as well as for deeper meanings. Nikos Stavroulakis, approached the Beshara School to see whether a course could be held there. Nikos has been involved in the restoration, and also researched the jewish and dervish communities in Greece (see his book Salonika –Jews and Dervishes). Anyone interested in finding out more details about the weekend course should contact Nikos directly on hanialinikos@grecian.net
