The Practical Wisdom of Ibn ‘Arabi

4th February – 11th March, 2021
Thursdays at 19:00 – 20.30 GMT (6 sessions)

Course Description

Ibn ʿArabi’s great metaphysical vision, based upon the principle of ‘the oneness of being’ (waḥdat al-wujūd), results not only in a coherent, theoretical cosmology, but also has many implications for our conduct in everyday life. This study course will explore some of these using texts from a number of his writings, considering issues such as forgiveness, response to suffering, tolerance and discernment.

No previous knowledge is required, all texts provided. Led by Jane Clark.

Muhyiddin Ibn ‘Arabi (1165-1240AD), mystic, philosopher, poet, sage, is one of the world’s great spiritual teachers, whose writings provide a beautiful exposition of the Unity of Being. His wisdom has much to offer us in the modern world, in terms of understanding what it means to be human.

These sessions are supported and sponsored by The Beshara Trust.

Facilitator

Jane Clark is a Senior Research Fellow of the Muhyiddin Ibn ‘Arabi Society, and has lectured and conducted courses both in the UK (Oxford University Department of Continuous Education, The Temenos Academy, The Beshara Trust), and internationally in Spain, Egypt, Syria and USA. Jane is currently the editor of Beshara Magazine.
