Discovering Unity Weekend Retreat

August 19 – 21, 2016

Discover more about yourself and the world about you while being introduced to the education the Chisholme Institute offers.

Course Description

Discover more about yourself and the world about you in the beautiful and peaceful environment of Chisholme. Explore your questions with others through group study, conversation and meditation.

The weekend offers you a chance to see things freshly. You will be introduced to a deep and rich way of viewing reality. This perspective is one of unity, that everything, including you, makes up a unified whole.

The understanding that all is one is found in many traditions and throughout the ages. During study we will read and discuss, for example, the Tao with its wisdoms from the China of 2500 years ago. Written in another place and many centuries later, we may look at the poetry of the thirteenth-century Persian poet Rumi. From about the same time, the writings of the Arab hailed as ‘the greatest teacher’ within Sufism, Ibn ‘Arabi, offer insights which we can begin to explore.

Study is balanced with short periods of work and meditation: both are an essential part of the education given  here. The work periods will introduce you to the Chisholme kitchen,  the garden and the estate. You will also have many opportunities to enjoy the fine food for which Chisholme is famous.

This introductory weekend is also a good opportunity to find out more about the longer courses offered at Chisholme.

Timetable & Accommodation

The course is fully residential. It starts at supper time (7pm) on Friday evening and runs until Sunday after lunch (about 2pm).

The location is Chisholme House, a beautiful, secluded estate on the edge of open moorland, deep in the hills of the Scottish Borders. It is roughly an hour’s drive from Edinburgh, Newcastle and Carlisle, with a regular bus service from Edinburgh and Carlisle to Hawick, the nearest town.

Booking & Fees

£95 including full board and lodging for two nights. A £30 non-refundable deposit is needed in order to confirm your place; the £65 balance is payable when you arrive. A note on course fees: there are no standard concessions offered because the fees have already been kept low. However, we do want the courses to be available for people on low incomes. If the fee is a genuine difficulty for you then perhaps we can help.  Please write to secretary@chisholme.org to enquire about a concession.

To book your place, please write to secretary@chisholme.org. Visit the Chisholme Institute website for further details.
