July 7, 2018 (2–5pm)
The October Gallery, 24 Old Gloucester Street, London WC1N 3AL
An afternoon seminar on the chapter on Solomon from Ibn ‘Arabi’s Fusus al-Hikam.
Event Description
This is the latest in a series of afternoons comprising study of the work of the great spiritual teacher Muhyiddin Ibn ‘Arabi. The aim of the study is to nurture a sentiment for self-knowledge, rather than for any academic or cultural benefit.
No previous knowledge of ibn ‘Arabi’s writings is needed. The seminar is designed both for those new to his work and for long-term students.
In this seminar we shall study the Chapter on “The Wisdom of the Merciful Beatitude in The Word of Solomon” from Ibn ‘Arabi’s seminal work, the Fusus al-Hikam, ‘..the quintessence of his spiritual teaching.’ . In this chapter Ibn ‘Arabi makes use of the Qur’anic stories of Solomon and Bilqis, the Queen of Sheba, to make some profound statements about human experience and the nature of reality.
