Description

These two texts form an introduction to Muhyiddin ‘Ibn ‘Arabi‘s metaphysics of Unity and have been a foundation for study at Beshara for many years.

From the introduction to The Twenty-Nine Pages: “The clarity of the exposition and depth of meaning make it an invaluable reference work for all students of mysticism and the spiritual life, whatever their background…  At the Beshara School it is always studied in groups, forming the focus for intensive discussion, and acting as a mirror for the students’ questions concerning their relationship with Reality.”

From the introduction to Know Yourself : “This short book introduces a view of the world which is very different to that held by many people. For some, it may serve a purpose in shattering preconceived notions and presenting an entirely new perspective which opens up a compassionate and responsive universe. It reflects an ardent desire to reach beyond the peripheral uncertainties of everyday life and discover, for ourselves, a certainty in the oneness of being which constantly flows through everything that is.”

Muhyiddin Ibn ‘Arabi (born in Andalusia 1165, died in Damascus 1240) is one of the most influential figures in the Islamic world. The universality of his thought, which is making him increasingly well-known in the West, is as powerfully relevant in today’s world as it has ever been.
